Fotolibro en colaboración:
de concepto a pitch

Taller enfocado en la estrecha colaboración entre diseñador y fotógrafo. Miraremos los componentes del fotolibro desde ambas perspectivas proponiendo una manera de trabajar horizontal y simbiótica en la cual ambas disciplinas fortalecen el producto final. Al concluir el taller los participantes habrán completado un pitch deck listo para circular a editoriales u otros colaboradores.
A través de estudios de caso, ejercicios, presentaciones, y sesiones de crítica colectiva; el taller abarca temas como secuencia de imagen, narrativa, materialidad y estrategias de difusión.

Workshop focused on the close collaboration between designer and photographer. We will look at the components of the photobook from both perspectives, proposing a horizontal and symbiotic way of working in which both disciplines strengthen the final product. By the end of the workshop, participants will have completed a pitch deck ready to circulate among publishers or other collaborators.
Through case studies, exercises, presentations, and collective critique sessions, the workshop covers topics such as image sequencing, narrative, materiality, and promotion strategies.
Tutores/ Teachers
Alejandro Torres Viera es un diseñador gráfico trabajando entre la ciudad de Nueva York y Puerto Rico. Su práctica explora las tensiones entre imagen, poder y memoria política, a través de proyectos de identidad visual, publicaciones y web. Es cofundador y director de diseño de Fix Studio.
Christopher Gregory-Rivera fotógrafo y artista puertorriqueño interesado en abordar la imagen como una forma de investigación que interroga cómo moldea la cultura, la memoria y el entendimiento político. En 2025 fundó el Instituto de Observación Colectiva, una iniciativa que apoya a investigadores y artistas que abordan la historia, identidad y memoria colectiva puertorriqueñas desde la imagen.
La colaboración más reciente de ambos es el libro El Gobierno Te Odia que reimagina la memoria política de Puerto Rico a partir de documentos de una división secreta de la policía que vigiló y persiguió a ciudadanos por sus creencias políticas. Obtuvo el premio al Mejor Primer Fotolibro en PhotoEspaña 2024, fue finalista del Paris Photo/Aperture Prize en 2023 y del Mejor Libro de Imagen y Texto en los Rencontres d'Arles.
Alejandro Torres Viera Graphic designer working between New York City and Puerto Rico. His practice explores the tensions between image, power, and political memory through visual identity projects, publications, and web-based work. He is co-founder and design director of Fix Studio.
Christopher Gregory-Rivera is a Puerto Rican photographer and artist interested in approaching the image as a form of research that examines how it shapes culture, memory, and political understanding. In 2025, he founded the Institute for Collective Observation, an initiative that supports researchers and artists who engage with Puerto Rican history, identity, and collective memory through the image.
Their most recent collaboration is the book “El Gobierno Te Odia”, which reimagines Puerto Rico’s political memory through documents from a secret police division that surveilled and persecuted citizens for their political beliefs. The book received the Best First Photobook Award at PhotoEspaña 2024, was a finalist for the Paris Photo–Aperture Prize in 2023, and was shortlisted for Best Photo-Text Book at Rencontres d’Arles.
Lumínica
Lumínica es una plataforma enfocada en fotografía contemporánea, publicación independiente y procesos colaborativos alrededor de la imagen. A través de talleres, encuentros y proyectos editoriales, busca crear espacios de intercambio crítico y producción creativa entre artistas, fotógrafos y diseñadores en Latinoamérica.Lumínica is a platform focused on contemporary photography, independent publishing, and collaborative processes around the image. Through workshops, gatherings, and editorial projects, it seeks to create spaces for critical exchange and creative production among artists, photographers, and designers in Latin America.
ÉBAU
ÉBAU es una plataforma de creación y articulación cultural con sede en Ciudad de México. Más que un espacio, es una estructura abierta para experimentar, producir y compartir conocimiento a través del arte, la imagen y el encuentro. Como los ojos de Proyectos Públicos, observa, conecta y activa procesos que transforman ideas en experiencias. Este taller de Lumínica forma parte de CIRCUITO una serie de actividades culturales artísticas que tienen sede en ÉBAU. ÉBAU is a platform for cultural creation and collaboration based in Mexico City. More than just a space, it's an open structure for experimenting, producing, and sharing knowledge through art, image, and encounter. Like the eyes of Proyectos Públicos, it observes, connects, and activates processes that transform ideas into experiences. This Lumínica workshop is part of CIRCUITO, a series of artistic and cultural activities based at ÉBAU.

1. Envío de imágenes
Por favor envía una selección de 10 imágenes en formato JPG que representen tu mirada, tus intereses y tu forma de trabajar como fotógrafx. Los archivos deben estar a 72 dpi, con el lado más largo de 1080 pixeles. También puedes compartirnos un enlace a una o dos series disponibles en tu sitio web.
Si trabajas a partir de proyectos o series, te pedimos incluir una selección de una o dos propuestas personales: imágenes que reflejen tus búsquedas, obsesiones o temas de interés. Para este taller en específico, recomendamos contar con un dummy, maqueta o idea inicial para desarrollar un fotolibro.
2. Bio y breve declaración de intención
Incluye también un texto breve en el que expliques por qué te interesa tomar este taller. La extensión máxima es de 150 palabras y debe enviarse en un documento de Word.
Además, agrega una biografía corta de máximo 100 palabras, también en formato Word.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE WORKSHOP
1. Image Submission
Please send a selection of 10 images in JPG format that represent your perspective, your interests, and the way you work as a photographer. Files should be 72 dpi, with the longest side measuring 1080 pixels. You may also share a link to one or two series available on your website.
If you work with projects or series, please include a selection from one or two personal bodies of work: images that reflect your interests, obsessions, or areas of inquiry. For this workshop in particular, we recommend having a dummy, maquette, or initial idea for developing a photobook.
2. Bio and Brief Statement of Intent
Please also include a short text explaining why you are interested in taking this workshop. The maximum length is 150 words, and it should be submitted as a Word document.
In addition, please include a short biography of no more than 100 words, also in Word format.
